Town Victoria, Tamaulipas.- As a result of the fourteenth ordinary meeting of the Water Care Traffic Light Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, the color was updated for the 43 municipalities of the state in force from July 2, placing 15 in green, 18 in yellow and 10 with continued red status.
The committee’s decision was made considering the current availability of water storage sources and the drought monitor issued by the National Water Commission, as well as the hydraulic balance by basins and aquifers that affects the 43 municipalities of the state.
The evaluation meeting was chaired by the Secretary of Hydraulic Resources for Social Development, Raúl Quiroga Álvarez, accompanied by the work team and authorities representing the Ministry of Urban Development and Environment, COEPRIS, Ministry of Public Education and general managers of the water utility companies in the municipalities of Victoria, Nuevo Laredo, Miguel Alemán, Altamira, Tampico, and Madero.
In the presentation of the technical balance, it was mentioned that the rainfall in the state since tropical storm «Alberto» has had a beneficial impact on the recovery of storage levels in dams, rivers, springs, and wells in the state, causing 23 municipalities to move out of the red zone in comparison to the water traffic light in May. In this sense, the municipalities that remain in the red zone belong to the border region, where the rainfall recorded has not been significant enough to recharge the storage levels in that region.
The fifteen municipalities updated with green color are Abasolo, Altamira, Ciudad Madero, Gómez Farías, González, Güémez, Hidalgo, Jaumave, Llera, El Mante, Padilla, Soto La Marina, Tampico, Victoria, and Xicoténcatl.
Meanwhile, Aldama, Antiguo Morelos, Burgos, Bustamante, Casas, Cruillas, Jiménez, Mainero, Méndez, Miquihuana, Nuevo Morelos, Ocampo, Palmillas, San Carlos, San Fernando, San Nicolás, Tula, and Villagrán were designated with yellow color.
Finally, the municipalities that remain in the red zone are Camargo, Guerrero, Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, Matamoros, Mier, Miguel Alemán, Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, Río Bravo, and Valle Hermoso.
